Description

The School of Engineering & Technology will open its undergraduate scholarship application for the upcoming academic year in late spring. Decisions are made in late summer. Awards are available to apply to autumn quarter tuition and are usually spread out over the academic year.

The SET scholarship application for the 2023-2024 academic year will open June 1st, 2023.

Applicants must be admitted into a SET major to be eligible. Please see the SET scholarship page for a list of scholarships available and the criteria for each award. Award amounts generally range from $500-$3000.

Financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid Office through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), is required for most SET scholarships. Visit the FAFSA page to apply for aid: www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Competitive scholarship applicants typically demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and are enrolled as a full-time student (12+ credits per quarter).

The components of the SET Scholarship Application:

  • Applicant information
  • One letter of recommendation (professional or academic)
  • Unofficial transcripts (official transcripts must be on file at UW Tacoma)
  • Overview of service or leadership activities at your college campus and/or in the local community. For consideration for the Boeing Diversity Scholarship, you will include your participation in any registered student organization that has a diversity focus (such as: Latinxs Embracing Education, Desi Student Alliance, Filipino American Student Organization, Somali Student Association, Women in Computing Science, the Black Student Union, or the Native American Student Organization) or if you have been active in the campus Center for Equity and Inclusion.
  • Personal statement: Our communities often prepare us to solve problems in diverse teams and for a diverse world. Tell us about any significant communities that you are actively part of as a college student, your role in these communities, why you are involved, and how the perspectives, skills, or insights you have gained from these experiences impact your current and future work. The essay should be typed, double-spaced, and in a 12 point font. One page minimum, two pages maximum.

Note: Your communities do not have to be at UW Tacoma. Community might refer to your club/organization, workplace, research team, family, religious group, cultural group, etc.

There is also a supplemental component and essay for students who wish to be considered for the Boeing Diversity Scholarship.
